Route Options by Road — Which One Should You Pick?
Route 1: Via NH-48 (Recommended)
The longest & well maintained route is this. A highly recommended route from Ahmedabad to Jaipur is NH-48. Road is good and there is not too much traffic and less duration.
The corridor goes: Jaipur → Ajmer → Udaipur → Himmatnagar → Ahmedabad
About 630-660 km depending on where exactly you divert, this takes 10.5 – 13 hours drive if you dont stop for too long. I would call this the best one in terms of both speed and road conditions, as also fuel and food stops available at important towns.
A couple of essential towns to stop at: Ajmer (about 130kms from Jaipur), Udaipur (about 400kms from Jaipur), Himmatnagar (before you reach Ahmedabad). All these towns make for essential brief stops.
Route 2: Via Jodhpur and Pali (NH-62)
This slightly longer route is visually very pleasing for travelers wanting to cover western Rajasthan. The roads are good on this NH-62 route, the ride is smooth though the traffic is moderate in sections near Pali and Jodhpur. It’s a scenic drive with various historical and culturally rich sites to cover.
The best route for travelers having an extra day and fond of forts and desert life.

Best Stops on the Jaipur to Ahmedabad Road Trip
Possibly the biggest selling point of doing this route, is the incredible concentration of UN World Heritage sites, religious buildings and sheer authentic Rajasthani scenery.
1. Ajmer & Pushkar (130 km from Jaipur)
Total Jaipur Ajmer is around 130 km, it is usually a car journey of 2 -2.5 hours along the NH-48. Ajmer contains the revered Dargah Sharif while Pushkar – 14km from Ajmer has the uniquely singular Brahma Temple, holy Pushkar Lake and that uniquely chilled out bazaar feel.

2. Chittorgarh (Around 300 km from Jaipur)
Chittorgarh Fort is another UNESCO World Heritage site and one you could spend anywhere between two to three hours seeing all its vast gates, towers and palaces. It is certainly one of the largest in India and epitomizes the history of Rajputana as few others can.
3. Udaipur (Around 395–405 km from Jaipur)
This is the main stop – Udaipur, which is approximately 5 hours from Jaipur and 3 hours from Ahmedabad. This City Palace, Lake Pichola, Jagdish Temple, and glittering Lake Palace will entice you to give it 2 full days, budget accordingly!

4. Ranakpur Jain Temple (Between Udaipur and Ahmedabad)
While planning stops on a Jaipur-Ahmedabad route the Ranakpur Jain temple seems to be on top of most people’s list. The age of the construction dates back to 15 th Century and this magnificent white marble temple carved with over 1,400 exquisitely carved pillars is extremely undervalued in tourist circuit. There is a minor charge of admission for non Jains, though for jains it is free.

5. Kumbhalgarh Fort (Near Udaipur)
Kumbhalgarh Fort, known as the Great Wall of India is fortified by 36 kms of robust walls. The fort is just a minor detour from the main NH-48 and truly a worthwhile trip for history lovers.

Best Time to Travel Jaipur to Ahmedabad
October to March is the sweet spot. Temperatures across Rajasthan and Gujarat remain pleasant, road conditions are reliable, and heritage sites are far more enjoyable without the summer heat.
April to June can be brutal — temperatures in Rajasthan regularly cross 42°C, and the drive through the interior becomes uncomfortable. Monsoon season (July to September) brings some road challenges, particularly on routes that pass through hilly terrain near Udaipur, though the landscape turns gorgeous green.
For travellers who love mountain treks after exploring the plains, you might also want to plan a high-altitude journey — our detailed guides on [Kinnaur Kailash Trek Distance] and [Delhi to Kinnaur Kailash Distance] are worth bookmarking for the post-monsoon trekking season.
